Committees

Committees are the central organ of the Society, performing any number of essential and auxilliary functions. There are multiple types of Commmittees, some which persist each year, and some which are struck as necessary, or for other purposes. Check out the types below, and get in touch with the President's Office if you're interested in joining!


Committees which must be struck annually as defined by Article 16 of the University College Literary and Athletic Society Constitution.

Hiring Committee

  • Its ratified members hire the staff positions on Council and can assist with hiring ancillary positions as necessary.

Constitutional Review Committee

  • Its members vote on proposed changes to the Constitution and Council Policy, which achieve ratification from a vote at the following Annual General Meeting.

Elections Committee

  • Its members institute fair and reasonable regulations for our general and special elections in accordance with our Governing Documents.

Elections Appeals Committee

  • Its members rule on appeals made during general and special elections for the Society.

Each ancillary organization has a special jointly-operated Standing Committee known as a Board.

Coffee Bar Board

  • Its ratified members ensure the financial and managerial wellbeing of Diabolos’ Coffee Shop.

UC Follies Board

  • Its ratified members assist in the hiring and administration of the Follies, and provide financial management assistance as necessary.

Orientation Board

  • Specific standing committees which operate semi-independently, but which depend on general Council action and support

Commissions

Committees which are not explicitly defined in Article 16 but which are nonetheless necessary for Council action

Executive Committee

  • Affirms the President and Vice President of the Society as the student representatives to the College administration, and their respective committees and meetings

Judiciary Committee

  • Its members meet to rule on disputes between council action and governing document prescription

Unessential committees which are struck as necessary to achieve specific goals

Alumni of Influence Selection Committee

  • The ratified member acts as the student representative to this Committee which selects the annual UC Alumni of Influence award

Scholarship Committee

  • Its ratified members work with the Registrar’s office to help choose which applicants receive certain collegiate bursaries

Search Committee for the Creative Writing Committee

  • Its members seek out individuals within the college Membership to engage with the Creative Writing Committee administered by the College

Third Floor Café Committees

  • Its members work with the College to administer and support the upcoming café on the third floor of the soon-to-open UC Building Revitalization

Revitalization Committee

  • Its members acts as student representation for the ongoing UC Revitalization project headed by College administration

Quad Committee

  • Its members acts as student representation for the ongoing UC Quad renovation, as part of the UC Revitalization Project headed by College administration

Appointments Committee

  • A ratified member and the President of the Society act as the student representatives to the Collegiate Committee which makes appointments within the college administration
